What is Therapy?
Therapy (also called psychotherapy) is a very special kind of relationship that you create with another person, a person who is there solely for you, and who can help you identify and resolve the issues you want to tackle in your life. The therapy itself can involve many different things, like talking about relationships, your feelings, your thoughts, or all of the above. Therapy can also involve learning and practicing new skills you can use in your daily life, to get you closer to a different way of living. Your therapist will have a style or model they like to use, and they’ll work with you to make sure the two of you are doing whatever is going to be most helpful for you.
Regardless of the specific things that happen within your sessions, the therapy is there to help you reflect on how you’re currently dealing with things so you can start to make conscious and intentional decisions about whether you want to continue living in those same ways, or start living in better and more comfortable ways.
